Revolutionary opera "Song of Mt. Kumgang" was given by the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe. It marked the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan by President Kim Il Sung.

The President formed the troupe with Korean artistes in Japan in Juche 63 (1974).

The troupe, a general Juche-oriented art organization of overseas Koreans, staged the opera before full houses in different parts of Japan and evoked a lively response among Koreans and foreigners.

The revolutionary opera was created in the drive to bring about a radical turn in the opera revolution in the 1970s under the tireless and energetic guidance of leader Kim Jong Il. It tells about the dramatic story in which the hero who was forced to part from his family during the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule made a reunion with his family under the care of the homeland.

The performance was given at the Pyongyang Grand Theater on Friday.

Among the audience were Kim Yong Nam, Kim Ki Nam, Minister of Culture Pak Chun Nam, officials concerned and creators and artistes of art organizations here, teachers and students in the field of art education.

Also among the audience were Chief Jo Il Min and members of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front and overseas Koreans staying in the socialist homeland including members of the association for supporting the opera troupe.
